Old time radio ftp server

 Frequently Asked Questions

Questions & Answers

The OTR FTP Server has been designed to be easy to join, simple to use, and provide excellent value for money. Before you start downloading you need to open an account and add some credits (as little as $7.50 is enough to get you going). Here is what happens.

What kind of shows are available?

There's everything from light-hearted comedy shows through to spine tingling thrillers, quiz shows, variety and sport. No matter what your taste in raido shows I'm sure you'll find something of interest to you.

How many shows are available?

There are currently over 30,000 old time radio shows available on the OTR FTP Server and this is growing all the time.

After purchasing some credits how long do I have to wait before I can log onto the system and start using them?

Once your payment has been accepted (which takes less than a minute) you will have immediate access to the OTR FTP Server.

What do I need to download and listen to these shows?

All you need is a computer and some FTP software. If you don't have any FTP software see the question below.

What exactly is FTP?

FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol. It is a way of logging onto another computer and copying files directly from that computer to your own machine. To use FTP you will need some FTP software. You can use any FTP software you like.

I don't have any FTP software. Where can I get this kind of software?

If you don't have any ftp software you can download either a completely free one or a shareware version from SofoTex. There are dozens to choose from. My personal favorite is BulletProofFTP.

Please note: If using BulletProof, you may find that it defaults to port 80. This should be changed to 21.

I'm not a computer expert. Will I be okay with this FTP thing?

If you are completely new to computers you might find FTP a little difficult, but if you know how to copy files from one folder to another on your own machine then this is only a small step further.

Is there a limit as to how much I can download each day?

There are absolutely no restrictions at all. If you have sufficient credits in your account you can download whenever you like and for as long as you like.

Can I access the OTR-FTP-Server at home and at work?

Yes! You can access from home or work, or anywhere else for that matter, using your usually username and password. You could even log on at both places at the same time if you so wished.

Can I give out my username and password to my friends?

Yes! Feel free to give your username and password out to whoever you like. Whatever they use will just be deducted from your credits in the normal way.

What happens when I run out of credits?

All that happens when your credits run out is that you will no longer be able to download anything. All you need to do is go to:
http://www.otrftpserver.com/AddCredits.aspx
to top up your credits. You can do that whenever you like - even if you still have credits remaining.

If I don't use my account for a while will my credits disappear?

Your credits will remain on your account for up to six months without you using the service, but as long as you log in every now and again (no less than once every six months) your credits will remain indefinitely.

What happens if I need some support?

If you need help feel free to send me an e-mail. My e-mail address is seth@otrftpserver.com.

Can I burn these shows to CDRs or audio CDs?

Yes! You can burn the shows to CD as either MP3 files or as audio if your software has that capability.

Can I use my 56k modem or do I need broadband?

You can use any kind of connection to the Internet. Obviously, the higher speed your connection is the faster the shows will download. On a broadband connection you should be able to download a show in just a few minutes whereas on a 56k modem it will probably take between 20 and 30 minutes per show.

How do I get more credits?

When you run out of credits you can top up your account by going to:
http://www.otrftpserver.com/AddCredits.aspx
